Since ancient times, everyone has been trying by any means to decorate their home. Ancient people painted patterns on the walls of caves. Our ancestors used wall paintings. Now it’s fashionable to hang beautiful paintings and posters, pick up colorful wallpapers, paint the walls with decorative putties. All this is done by a person with one purpose - to decorate his home, as his ancestors did many centuries ago. Every year, designers find new solutions. In recent years, new unusual paintings have appeared on sale - modular.
What are modular paintings?
The image in modular paintings is divided into several parts. Each subsequent part of the picture is a continuation of the previous one. The paintings are located on the wall at a distance of 2 to 4 cm, depending on the size of the image. The more details of the module, the greater the distance must be left between its parts. Their number also varies. There are paintings consisting of 2, 3, 4, 5 or more parts.
Modular paintings are now fashionable, in which the central part is larger. If there are more than 3 elements, then the arrangement can be different: stepwise, diamond-shaped, in free order.
Types of modular images
Artists and designers beat modular paintings in many ways. Pictures are made of wood, plastic, photo paper. They are in the framework, but most often without them. The image is located on the sides of the subframe for the picture, so, despite the fact that the parts are at a certain distance, the integrity of the image is felt. The drawing applied to the boards usually bears the image of natural elements, such as animals, flowers, trees. Such modules look very stylish in rooms decorated with natural building materials.
In ordinary apartments or houses with painted walls, photographs with various prints will aesthetically look. It can be city and architectural sights, modern painting. You can choose a similar picture for any style of decoration of the apartment. There is also a wide variety of methods for hanging modular paintings on the wall. You need to choose fasteners based on the wall material and the weight of each module segment.
Installation of a modular picture
Before you hang modular paintings on the wall, it is recommended that the parts are placed in the correct order on the floor. In this position, it will already be seen how the image and color scheme fit into the interior of the room, whether it suits furniture, sofa upholstery. Before starting the installation, you must use a building level to draw an even line on the wall. The picture should be at a distance of about 1.5 m from the floor so that the image is located opposite the human eye.
If the parts are on the same level, then the line needs to be stretched across the entire image length. With the diverse placement of the segments, you need to mark out all the details. The next step will be the choice of how to hang modular paintings on the wall. Photos and prints are best hung on the walls without wallpaper. On a smooth painted wall, you can install the picture with nails or dowels. For this type of installation, a hole for putting on a nail is provided on the back of the modules. This method is used when modular paintings have frames. You must first carefully consider how to hang modular paintings on the wall in the frame.
There is a slight caveat. The frame itself has a certain thickness, so the distance between the modules is reduced. In any case, before evaluating the future appearance of the combined elements, they must first be laid out on the floor. Then it will become clear at what distance the segments need to be hung. If it’s a pity to hollow the wall or the owners often like to change the interior of the room, it’s better not to wall the holes, but to use other methods: using liquid nails, double-sided tape, a smart latch, Velcro, spider hooks.
Proper wall mount
Before you start installing the picture, you need to inspect the quality of the wall. If the wall is smooth, even, for example, painted, concrete, drywall, then it is convenient to use double-sided tape or Velcro. But there is one drawback. Before you hang modular paintings on the wall, you need to evaluate their weight. It is not recommended to mount a heavy picture in this way, since a fall due to the severity of the canvas is possible. If the segment is light, then you can safely use this method.
Double-sided tape is cut into small pieces, somewhere 1-1.5 cm, and glued from the back of the part at a distance of 5-10 cm. Then you need to remove the adhesive tape and carefully, along the planned line, lean against the wall. For the strength of gluing, it is advisable to hold for several minutes by pressing the panel against the wall with your hands. The same thing needs to be done with each segment.
Velcro wall mount
Let's look at how to hang modular paintings on the wall with Velcro. For this installation method you will need: Velcro tape, glue. Velcro can be freely bought at sewing accessories stores. They consist of two parts. Before you hang modular paintings on the wall, Velcro needs to be divided into 2 layers. One is glued to a segment of the painting, the other layer is attached to the wall itself with glue.
First you need to mark the wall, drawing exactly the top line of the picture and the line on which you need to stick the Velcro. On the element itself, you also need to correctly measure the distance so that at the time of connecting the layers of Velcro on the wall, there is no shift. In this case, the image will be skewed.
How to hang modular paintings on the wall
The perception and harmonious combination with the surrounding interior of the room depends on the correct location of the picture. It is necessary to consider the size of the room. A vertical pattern visually increases the height of the ceiling and walls, and a horizontal pattern expands the space.
Also, when choosing a place, the direction of light in the room is taken into account. With an excess of sunlight, the picture will prematurely age and fade. If the picture is painted with oil paints, then you need to check if there will be glare from artificial lighting. This will interfere with the perception of the picture.
When installing the picture, you need to consider the amount and volume of furniture in the room. If the clutter is large, then the picture needs to be selected in a small size. If there is a lot of space in the room, then the picture is more massive, consisting of more segments.
Photos in the interior # 8211 how to hang photos without nails
For a long time I did not write on the topic of photographs in the interior ... And today I want to answer the question that was raised by my readers in the comments to previous articles - how to hang photographs without nails and without harm to the wallpaper.
FASTENING WITHOUT NAILS REUSABLE AND SAFE FOR WALLPAPERS
1.The most convenient option ismounting systemCommand 3M
It allows you to easily and reliably fasten items up to 4 kg (depending on the type of fixture), and is removed without leaving any residue on the wallpaper. Mostly these fasteners are white, but you can also find black fasteners.
For photos, two types of Command mounts are available:
- Holders for frames with hinges. Withstand weight 2 kg.
- Fasteners for frames without loops. The manufacturer guarantees that a set of 4 small fasteners can withstand weight up to 450g, medium - 1 kg, large - 2 kg, although in the advertising video we are even talking about 4 kg.
What is the second mounting option convenient for? the second part of the "Velcro" is attached directly to the frame, it can be re-glued several times, if the first time you could not hang the photo exactly.
- you do not make a hole in the wall and do not spoil the wallpaper if you need to take a photo or picture,
- You can easily change photos and frames.
These mounts may not work:
- for very delicate designer wallpapers,
- for uneven surfaces, for example, brick walls.
If you are curious, you can watch a video about these holders.
2. There are also several options for lighter photos and posters:
2.1. Scotch 3M Adhesive Strips:
- Adhesive Removable Transparent Squares and Scotch Strips
- Scotch Adhesive Removable Color Figures (come in different colors, can be reused, ideal for funny children's photos, one figure can withstand a weight of 85 g)
These mounting options can be easily removed without harming either the wallpaper or the photos, so they are great for placing, for example, a collage of small photos without frames on the wall. Suitable for including wood, glass, tiles, etc.
2.2. Adhesive massBantex Tack-All or Scotch 3M
This adhesive mass can withstand a weight of about 450g and looks like a chewing gum - you tear off a piece and stick it on the wall, and then press the photo frame or paper poster onto it. It is easy to remove and can be used again - as in the case of chewing gum, you simply take another piece of tape and press it several times to a piece of tape on the wall / paper, gradually removing the last from the surface.
Of the minuses - limited use.
For reliable fasteners you need a fairly smooth wall with or without non-textured wallpaper, as well as a plastic or paper surface of what you are hanging - a photo frame or a paper poster itself.
Where can I buy mounts Command, Scotch, Bantex:
- stationery stores, stationery sections in large hypermarkets
- photo shops and photo labs
We are talking about both ordinary stores and online stores.
There you can see similar products from other less well-known manufacturers # 8211, for example, Kores, Unibob, UHU.
FASTENING WITHOUT NAILS DISPOSABLE
Of the neat mounting options without nails, the following can also be mentioned, but they can still damage the wallpaper, wall or even the frame of the photo when dismantled:
- Double-sided mounting adhesive squares and tapesScotch 3m foam base (4 squares support weight up to 900 g)
- Just double-sided tape
- Liquid Nails (sold in building materials stores)
FASTENING WITHOUT NAILS CREATIVE
Also, do not forget about the various creative options that I wrote about earlier, when you do not attach the photographs themselves to the wall, but what you can put or attach them to later:
By the way, Ikea has neat narrow shelves for paintings.
The article used photos from sites: Bridal Musings, Cathy Mores Photography, Sierra Studios Photography, Photojojo, Ikea.

How to hang a picture without drilling a wall
How to hang a picture without nails? Special Velcro for paintings has already been invented. They have nothing to do with Velcro for clothes and double adhesive tape - Velcro for paintings do not spoil the walls, hold paintings securely, but are easily removed, if necessary. Any person can hang a picture with Velcro, it only takes a couple of minutes and does not require special appliances.
One Velcro consists of two parts - the first part is fixed on the wall, and the second - on the frame. This will securely hold your picture on the wall, but will make it easy to take it off if necessary.
Using Command Velcro, you can hang a painting weighing up to 5 kg on a wall. Includes 4 Velcro. The required number of Velcro you choose depending on the weight of the picture. The whole set can withstand a weight of about 5 kg, one Velcro - up to 1.3 kg, two - up to 2.7 kg.
At the same time, you do not need to drill a wall and bother with the noise of your neighbors, you do not need to make a terrible hole in the wall, which will need to be masked with something if you decide to shoot a picture. Plus Velcro is also that you can not only easily hang a picture, but also easily replace it with another if the old picture is boring. This is not unimportant, because many modern posters on canvas are not expensive at all, which often allows you to update the atmosphere in your home and constantly bring something fresh.
Velcro can be glued to almost any surface. True, they may not be suitable for very delicate designer wallpapers and perhaps not very good fastening to the brick walls of loft interiors.
Of course, all of our modular oil paintings, posters on canvas, wall clocks are sold with a standard nail mount, but Velcro fasten the paintings much more convenient, faster and more practical.
Video: How to hang a picture without nails
Fortification on the cornice is a simple operation, and several methods for its implementation are known, among them:
- on ties and braid
- drawstring and hinges,
- hooks, clips and clothespins,
The latter, according to many, is the simplest. This does not require special knowledge, high costs and time.
For light paintings
You can use the stationery buttons, only you will need more Moment glue and a knife. Make a cross-shaped incision on the wall, gently bend the wallpaper in this place, be sure to clean the concrete surface (not drywall!) With an emery cloth, smear the vacant place with glue. Put it on the button head, wait a minute, press it against the wall, after an hour paste the corners of the wallpaper. The picture itself can be hoisted into place only in a day: so that everything thoroughly dries and sticks. Instead of a button, a clothes hook is suitable, only make an incision horizontal, the rest of the work scheme, how to hang a picture without nails, is the same.
Feel free to use double-sided tape on the drywall wall. Its base must be fabric, otherwise the mount will be unreliable. For a small picture, a few pieces of adhesive tape glued in the upper third of the canvas will suffice. If the picture is large, it will be correct to apply adhesive tape around the perimeter of the frame.
But the double-sided foam tape is glued correctly not to the frame, but to the wall: first, cut the tapes firmly to the surface of the wallpaper, remove the protective layer, and only then glue the picture. To hang it straight the first time, draw a horizontal line with a pencil using the building level.
A scotch tape mount is ideal if the room has smooth wallpaper or drywall walls. One caveat: over time, sticky impregnation dries out and there is a danger that the picture may fall, so it is better not to use such a mount over a sofa or bed.
You can still hang pictures without nails with the help of Velcro fasteners Command. The main thing is to choose the right kit, since the small one withstands objects only up to 0.5 kg, and the average - up to a kilogram. Each Velcro consists of two parts: one is glued to the surface, the other to the picture. With the help of a special mount, the parts are connected, reliably fixing the picture on the wall. True, in this way the canvas can not be hung at an angle. But after dismantling the Velcro can be used more and more, in addition, they do not spoil the wallpaper.
How to hang a picture on the wall if it weighs more than a kilogram? On a wooden, plastered, plasterboard surface, a mount called a “spider hook” is suitable. Four sharp metal pivot rods placed behind the hook help to keep the weight up to 2 kg and practically do not leave marks after dismantling.
If the house does not have a building level, you can even hang your favorite work of art using ... a transparent bottle. Fill it with water to half and safely use instead of spirit level: the line of water in any position of the bottle will always correctly show the horizon line.
Liquid nails will help you to hang pictures without nails on a drywall wall with textured wallpaper. They will firmly glue a frame of any material to any surface, so feel free to hang even the largest picture in the room and over the sofa and over the bed. It is better to immediately use the level and glue your pet right and right at the right height, because liquid nails sometimes leave greasy spots.
What is Velcro
This type of fastening is used quite widely: in the manufacture of garments, shoes, accessories and other goods. It consists of two tape elements: microhooks are located on one, and the same small loops are on the other. When both tapes touch, the hooks cling to the loops, adhering tightly to each other.
Self-adhesive Velcro tape or Velcro Velcro
The convenience of Velcro is that they can be fixed on the windows and in the absence of a cornice, which saves space and money. Among other advantages, note:
- long service life and preservation of technical characteristics,
- ease of installation and maintenance: they are easy to remove, wash, dry and iron.
- Velcro curtains can be used for any interior and style.
Velcro fastening on a plastic window does not violate the integrity of the window
How to install curtains on a window without drilling
Traditionally, in order to hang a curtain, it is first necessary to install a cornice, having previously drilled holes in the wall. Then mount the holders for it and securely fasten them.
Крепление отдельных полотен японских штор на липучку
Однако многие начинающие домашние мастера интересуются, как прикрепить штору к пластиковому окну, но избежать сверления. Это можно сделать, воспользовавшись возможностями крепления занавесок на липучках. This method of fastening can be used during installation:
- Roman curtains, including rolled,
- curtains made in oriental style, in its broad sense,
Japanese Velcro curtains will look good in a small living room
Velcro curtains look like regular curtains, to remove them just disassemble the Velcro
Do-it-yourself Velcro installation of curtains
Before proceeding with the design of the curtain with Velcro, you need to decide where to attach it: to the wall, a plastic or wooden window, and then:
- cut a strip from 5 to 12 cm wide from the fabric, depending on the purpose and density of the curtain,
We take measurements of the window with an allowance for Velcro and seams above and below
We cut the curtains in size, bend the sides of the curtains, then the bottom of the curtains using the soft part of the Velcro from the wrong side
For each curtain we sew 4 ties from the same or different fabric
To the top of the curtain on the front side, pin a soft Velcro tape, measure 7 cm from the edge of the curtain, put one string under the Velcro tape from the bottom, sew
We bend the velcro to the wrong side and sew it, laying another 1 stitch
Glue the hard part of the Velcro to the wall and fasten our curtain
With the help of ties, you can lower and raise the curtains
After that, the front side of the fabric is covered with a strap, which also needs to be sewn.
The rigid part of the fastener is attached to the cornice and glued.
To fix the bottom of the curtain, we use a rigid velcro around the edges
Attention! If the curtain is light, and its installation is supposed to be on a plastic window, additional use of the adhesive mass is not required.
How to hang a Roman curtain without drilling
The nuances of fixing the Roman curtains with Velcro
For a long time, the so-called Roman curtains remain one of the most popular types of curtains. Today they are flat cloths with the help of which you can quickly and beautifully decorate the room. At the same time, one more advantage of these products is style versatility: they fit perfectly into any interior.
On the wrong side of the fabric, with the help of chalk or a piece of dry soap, mark the places of installation of the rings, the folds and the fold
Usually they are attached to the eaves, for this they drill holes where they insert the fasteners and fix it. However, today, to hang a curtain of this type it is not necessary to drill a wall - you can use Velcro adhesive tape.
We process the side edges and the upper cut of the fabric, sew the Velcro Velcro to the upper cut, on which the curtain will be attached
For this, in addition to the fabric itself, you will need:
- Velcro (soft part)
- planks made of plastic or metal that will simulate a cornice,
- weight plate, which is strengthened along the bottom of the product,
- even number of curtain rings.
We install a wooden beam on the window frame
Using nails or a furniture stapler, fasten Velcro to the bottom of a wooden beam
The work is carried out as described in the previous section. In addition, peculiar pockets are sewn from the inside, where a “cornice” is inserted on top, and a weight is placed below.
We turn the bottom of the curtain to form a place under the weighting bar, on the seamy side of the curtain we sew the finishing border, into the formed "pockets" insert the slats
A cord is drawn through the rings fastened at the level of the pockets, and the entire structure is attached by the rigid side of the Velcro to a plastic or wooden base.
We sew the rings, with the help of Velcro fasten the curtain on a wooden beam, then thread the cord to the top edge of the curtain through all the rings, fix the cords with ribbons
We remove the ribbons that fixed the folds when the curtain drops - we align the tension of all the cords, the installation of the curtain is completed
Additional Information. Weighting the bottom of the product allows you to save the surface from folds and creases.
Loggia or balcony: how to fasten curtains with Velcro
Today it is customary to use a balcony or a loggia as a residential area, often turning into another impromptu room. In addition to other mounting methods, Velcro curtains can be installed.
Velcro curtains are often used to hang windows on balconies and loggias.
However, their use requires the observance of additional conditions that will ensure the strength and reliability of the curtains.
Do-it-yourself curtains on a Velcro balcony with your own hands have a certain installation difficulty, since the windows installed here reach the very top, and you can strengthen them with great difficulty. It is impossible to install a curtain rod, curtains on nails are not aesthetically pleasing, and using Velcro will be the most effective and aesthetic way.
A great option is to use Roman curtains. They have several advantages:
- do not interfere with opening windows
- don't flutter from gusts of wind
- do not require significant material costs,
- used in various colors.
Attention! Do not forget that the features of the arrangement of balconies and loggias suggest a significant movement of air, so heavy fabrics are inappropriate here.
The best choice for balcony curtains would be tulle, kisei, organza, silk, cambric, curtain fabric.
The fabric can be fastened with Velcro to the bar, then install it on the window frame and fix it with fasteners.
The adhesive tape is attached to the wooden rail using glue or a stapler, and the rail is fixed with screws on the wall
Design options for balconies and loggias can be found on sites where color photos are posted.
Suction cups for curtains, scope and installation
Another way to attach curtains is to use suction cups. Most often, they fix the curtains in the bathroom, shower, combined bathroom. It has its advantages:
- time saving
- no need to drill walls.
However, such products are not always encouraging: after a short operation, they lose strength, fall with the curtains.
When buying, you need to pay attention to the integrity and smoothness of the surface of the suction cup. If they are violated, then the period of use will be short-lived.
But even absolutely high-quality products will not hold tight if the wall has defects: potholes, cracks, the remains of the previous coating. It will be difficult to strengthen them on the relief surface of the tiles.
To securely fasten them, you must apply:
- degreasing agents,
- petroleum jelly and petroleum jelly preparations,
- lining of self-adhesive PVC film,
- silicone sealant.
What is a modular picture
A distinctive feature of the modular picture is the fact that the canvas is assembled from several parts into a single image. Very popular today Modular pictures, where each component is of a different size, which gives the image a special appeal and creativity. In most cases, these paintings are made up of three or five parts that remain no frameso that the integrity of the canvas is not lost.
But in order for the modular picture to become truly a decoration of the room, then when placing it, it is necessary to take into account some of the subtleties and rules of installation of such paintings.
Methods for attaching pictures:
- Liquid nails or glue
- Using the Commond system,
- Double-sided tape,
- Woly mounting system,
- With crocodiles,
- Attach the picture to the wall with Velcro.
Naturally, there are much more ways to mount paintings, but we will consider the most effective in relation to the installation of specifically modular paintings.
How to hang a modular picture on Command
The Command system is perfect for mounting paintings on concrete walls, whose surface is finished with metal, plastic, wooden, glass cladding, or painted with special paints or finished with tiles.
- Before you start installing a modular picture, you need to use the level to make markings on the wall for all parts of the canvas, which will help to avoid curvature,
- Then clean the surface from contamination,
- Depending on the weight of the parts of the picture, choose the optimal type of Command mounts, which differ in the following types:
- Hooks (withstand weight 2 kg),
- Fasteners (weight 450 g),
- Fixing strips (weight 450 g),
If fasteners or fastening strips are chosen as fasteners, it is recommended to place them around the perimeter and in the center of the canvas on the back of the picture, which will allow you to tightly and evenly fix parts of the picture on the wall, without fear that they might fall.
- Connect the two strips of fasteners with Velcro inwards and carefully press them to each other.
- Remove the protective papers from one side of the Velcro and distribute them on the back of the painting, pressing them firmly to the canvas.
- After that, remove the remaining protective papers and carefully stick the picture to the wall, firmly pressing the canvas to the wall surface.
If hooks are used, they also have an adhesive backing strip, with which the hook is attached to the wall.
Tip: It is not recommended to use the Command system for walls that are glued with thin and delicate wallpaper, since under the weight of the picture they can tear and the picture will fall down.
How to hang a modular picture on a flypaper
This method of fastening will be liked first of all by those who prefer to often change their places, without spoiling the wall with additional fasteners.
The meaning is very similar to the Command system, only in this case, Velcro is bought at a clothing store. One strip of Velcro is glued to the wall with glue, the second strip is fixed on the back of the picture. After that, the picture can be safely attached to the wall with Velcro. How many Velcro to use depends on the size of the canvas.
How to hang a modular picture with liquid nails
We note right away that this option is only suitable if it is calculated that the painting has been hanging in this place for a very long time, or the weight of the painting is so heavy that other methods will not work, and there is no way to use a drill and nails.
- Using the level, the required number of markings on the wall is made for each part of the picture.
- Apply liquid nails to the back of the painting around the entire perimeter at intervals of 5 cm.
- Glue the parts of the picture to the wall in accordance with the markings applied, pressing the canvases against the surface for a while for better fixation.
You can’t do without drilling
How to hang a modular picture correctly? Prepare yourself: find a pencil, level. Responsibly approach the choice of a place for your favorite: she will look gorgeous in a spacious hallway, above a wide sofa in the living room. Such a work of art should hang either at a height of eye level, or about 150 cm from the floor, or it can be made so that it is just convenient for you to look at your favorite landscape.
- So, start with the middle fragment: draw a pencil around the module around the perimeter, step back 2 cm from the top line and on the sides to drill a hole for the mounts.
- Drive in the dowels included in the kit, then the nails (try not to damage the drywall surface).
- Do the same with the rest of the fragments, leave the distance between them about 2 cm. Be careful and extremely accurate when the segments need to be mounted at different heights.
It is better to hang the big picture in a spacious room: large modules require a greater distance between themselves.
In some modular paintings, you can find a special mounting bracket (clamp) in the center in the upper part and double-sided tape in the lower corners. In this case:
- You will need to mark the point in the center of the fragment directly above the clam, retreat 1 cm down and, if the wall is made of drywall, just drive in the fastener, but the concrete will have to be drilled.
- Next, remove the protective film from the tape, put the module on the clamp. Before you press the lower corners, be sure to level the picture.
- 2 cm away from the fragment hung on the wall, at the desired height, mark the point for fastening, doing everything according to the already familiar pattern.
The picture is firmly attached, we can assume that the final touch in the repair is completed ...
